The contribution limit for 2026 is $4,400 for self-only coverage and $8,750 for family coverage. If you’re 55 or older, you can make an additional $1,000 in catch-up contributions. If you go over these limits, the IRS charges a 6% penalty for every year the excess funds are in your HSA.
