You can verify an organization's 501(c)(3) status and eligibility to receive tax-deductible contributions using the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search (TEOS) tool at IRS.gov. If you donate to an individual, the IRS considers it to be a personal gift, which is not tax deductible.

The IRS allows taxpayers to deduct eligible charitable donations of up to 60% of their AGI (in some cases, 20%, 30%, or 50% limits may apply).
