Americans would rather file their taxes than go on a reality dating show, Jackson Hewitt declares April 2 “Get It Done Day”
SARASOTA, Fla., April 2, 2026 — Forget the roses, Americans are choosing returns, and Jackson Hewitt Tax Services®, is making it official with the declaration of April 2, 2026 as “Get It Done Day.” According to a new national survey commissioned by Jackson Hewitt, 84 percent of Americans say they would rather file their taxes than compete on a reality dating show, signaling that when it comes down to it, getting things done beats out chasing the romantic spotlight.
Jackson Hewitt’s Get It Done Day encourages Americans to tackle lingering to-dos, like filing their taxes, and experience the relief that comes with checking it off the list.
“Get It Done Day is about turning procrastination - or what we like to call proTAXination - into progress,” said Kim Hudson, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Jackson Hewitt Tax Services. “Whether it’s filing your taxes or tackling something you’ve been putting off, there’s real power in getting it done. We’re here to make tax filing simple so Americans can get the help they need, check it off the to-do list, and move forward.”
With more than half of Americans (51 percent) admitting they spend more time worrying about tasks than actually doing them, April 2’s Get It Done Day offers a simple solution: pick one thing, get some help, finish it, and feel the difference.
The Relief Is the Real Reward
The survey makes one thing clear: finishing tasks feels good, really good, and the sense of satisfaction extends across everyday responsibilities. More than half (53 percent) of Americans say relief is the top emotion they feel after completing an important task, with 61 percent saying the same specifically about filing their taxes.
What Americans Want to “Get It Done”
If given a dedicated day like Get It Done Day to finally tackle a sample to-do list, Americans say they would prioritize home organization projects (56 percent), filing their taxes (40 percent), health appointments (30 percent), and work tasks (30 percent).
Taxes Still Top the List
Taxes remain one of the most important, and most delayed, tasks of the season. While 56 percent of Americans say they filed as early as possible, one in four (25 percent) still plan to file in the coming weeks.
The survey also highlights what helps people take action, including eight out of ten (81 percent) stating a potential refund would motivate them to file earlier. Additionally, the majority just want help, with 62 percent stating having tax help would push them to act sooner. As Americans look to finally check taxes off their to-do list, Jackson Hewitt Tax Pros are here to make it easier to get it done, move forward, and get the biggest refund they deserve.

Just over one thousand complete surveys were collected using the sample framework based on U.S. Census data for age, ethnicity, gender, region, and income.
