Seniors qualify for two perks, an additional standard deduction and a new senior deduction.

Seniors who are 65 and older qualify for an annual additional standard deduction on top of the regular standard deduction. If you’re married, filing separately or jointly, this additional deduction is worth up to $1,600, and if you’re single or head of household, up to $2,000.

The Big Beautiful Bill Act also introduced a separate new deduction of up to $6,000 for each senior 65 and older. It is available from 2025 through 2028. It starts phasing out for single seniors with a MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income) of $75,000, and at $150,000 for those who are married filing jointly.

Combined, these two age-related additional deductions equal up to $8,000 for single filers and up to $7,600 for joint filers. These deductions are just for seniors, and they are in addition to the regular standard deduction! Plan ahead to maximize your tax benefits this year. Book your appointment today.
