Tax School Overview
Every fall, Jackson Hewitt Tax Service® offices across the country open their doors for Tax School, where students can register for an income tax preparation course and learn how to prepare individual income tax returns. Many students go on to find jobs as tax preparers in local Jackson Hewitt offices*.
If you have never prepared taxes before, choose the Jackson Hewitt Basic Income Tax Course. If you already have some tax preparation experience or if you are an Enrolled Agent interested in earning Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits, then review our list of Intermediate and Advanced Courses.
The Basic Income Tax Course is offered In three segments:
Basic Income Tax 1 addresses income tax basics such as IRS e-filing, credits, deductions and filing status. 8, three-hour sessions = 24 hours of course work.
Basic Income Tax 2 teaches topics such as interest, dividends, capital gains, IRAs, etc. 8, three-hour sessions = 24 hours of course work.
Basic Income Tax 3 covers depreciation, Schedule E and basis of property. 7, three-hour sessions = 21 hours of course work, plus an open-book final exam.
Tax preparation courses and fees vary by market. In most cases, tuition is free; you only pay for books and supplies.
