Reached Age 65

You are considered to be age 65 on the day before your 65th birthday. At age 65 or older your standard deduction amount for 2014 is as follows:

  • $7,750 -   Single
  • $13,600 - Married Filing Joint- only one person is age 65
  • $14,800 - Married Filing Joint- both age 65
  • $13,600 - Qualified Widow
  • $7,750 -   Married Filing Separate
  • $10,650 - Head of Household


Taxable Social Security

Generally if your only source of income was your social security benefits then your benefits are not taxable. However, if you have other sources of income your benefits could be taxable.
