Donate Now to Philippines Charitable Relief Causes and Claim on 2013 Tax Return

This past Tuesday the President signed into law H.R. 3771, the Philippines Charitable Giving Assistance Act.  What do you need to know about that? The law allows people to deduct charitable donations for Typhoon Haiyan relief made between Tuesday, March 25 (when the bill was signed into law) and April 14, 2014 on their 2013 taxes.

This allows you to give to Philippines-related charities now and see the tax benefits this year versus when you file your taxes next year.

Last November, Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, was hit with a typhoon that killed more than 6,000 people. The typhoon is the deadliest on record to ever hit the Philippines. As of January 2014, bodies were still being recovered.
